Youtube Channels
Absolute MMA St Kilda / Submeta.io
These are Lachlan Giles’ channels. The Absolute MMA St Kilda Youtube Channel has a TON of free stuff, I have stolen SO much from here for class ideas, etc. Submeta.io is his recent subscription channel, but he published a lot of free stuff there, some of which is on Youtube.
Lachlan is absolutely my #1 video instructor. His videos are absolutely PACKED with good info, much more information dense than John Danaher’s IMO. His explanations are succinct without being laboured. He shows himself demonstrating a lot of stuff live, and it isn’t always easy for him under live conditions. Anyone can look good when meeting no resistance, but Lachlan shows what it’s more likely to be like for real.
Plus he is Australian, and just comes across as a nice, humble, though highly skilled and knowledgeable, person. He was Craig Jones’ coach before he moved to America.
Jon Thomas
Jon also has a ton of free stuff online. Arguably some of the best gi related content out there, though he has excellent no gi stuff as well.
John Will
I had my first jiu jitsu lesson with John Will at Rick Spain’s gym in 1998. Seeing the possibilities of jiu Jitsu the way John presented them made this something I could not possibly go past. I’ve done close to sixty seminars with him.
Two Twelve
John Will and Dave Meyer. Two members of the BJJ “Dirty Dozen”, the first 12 non-Brazilian black belts, hence the “Two Twelve”. Fundamental techniques.
Bob&Brad
These guys are physical therapists (or in Australia, physiotherapists). They come across like Laurel and Hardy, but their information is really comprehensive and wide ranging. I have got maybe 60% better function and pain reduction out of a shoulder problem I have had for decades using the cross friction tendon massage described in this video in less than two weeks, and I am confident I can get further significant improvement.
Sonny Brown
Really interesting and unusual video breakdowns of MMA and grappling techniques. I have trained with Sonny at Lange’s MMA since 2007, and I now train at his new gym in Brookvale, Apex MMA. He also runs one of the best grappling and MMA podcasts out there, the Sonny Brown Breakdown, with really diverse and fascinating interviewees. He has fought, refereed, does fight commentary, and has a scarf hold instructional on the boil.
